»East-West-Passages«
Dance and theatre from Europe. New impetus from the East.

Dear colleagues,

Hereby we would like to draw your attention to the symposia »East-West-Passages« organised in the frame of the euro-scene Leipzig festival. Registration is open. Although the symposium will coincide with the IETM in Glasgow we hope to raise the interest of those who would like to engage in the debate on artistic mobility in Europe and its imbalance.

The exchange between Eastern and Western Europe received an enormous boost with the fall of the Berlin Wall 20 years ago. Collaborations between artists, festivals and European cooperation projects took the place of glances behind the Iron Curtain. Today however, the East seems to have lost its fascination. This is not only evidence in the attendance of festivals, but in the awareness of new artistic developments in general. Exchange through Europe is marked by vast differences. Aesthetic developments seem to proceed completely differently in Eastern and Western Europe. A two-day symposium in cooperation with the German Centre of the International Theatre Institute (ITI), Berlin, will attempt to enrich the Europe-wide debate with an intensive exchange of opinions. Two public panel discussions will form the opening and closing of the symposium – attractions for an interested audience. Exchanges between networks, production companies, festival producers and artists will then take place in smaller work groups.

The weekend will also give the opportunity to see dance and theatre performances from all over Europe in the 20th edition of euro-scene Leipzig (see www.euro-scene.de)

»Ost-West-Passagen«
Tanz und Theater aus Europa. Neue Impulse aus dem Osten.

Liebe Kolleginnen und Kollegen,

auf diesem Wege möchten wir Sie herzlich zum »Ost-West-Passagen« im Rahmen der euro-scene Leipzig 2010 einladen. Wir würden uns freuen, wenn wir Ihr Interesse an der intensiven Diskussion über den internationalen künstlerischen Austausch in Europa, seine Chancen und Hindernisse gewinnen können. Neben der Begegnung mit Festivalveranstaltern und Künstler bieten die Vorstellung des Festivals an diesem Wochenende Diskussionsstoff und Inspiration.

Einen enormen Schub erhielt der Austausch zwischen Ost und West durch den Fall der Mauer vor 20 Jahren. An die Stelle des Blicks hinter den Eisernen Vorhang trat die Zusammenarbeit zwischen Künstlern, Festivals und Europäischen Kooperationsprojekten. Heute jedoch scheint der Osten seine Faszination verloren zu haben. Das trifft nicht nur auf die Präsenz bei Festivals zu, sondern auch auf die Wahrnehmung neuer künstlerischer Entwicklungen überhaupt. Der europaweite Austausch ist von großen Unterschieden gekennzeichnet. Ästhetische Entwicklungen scheinen in Ost- und Westeuropa äußerst unterschiedlich zu verlaufen. Ein zweitägiges Symposium in Kooperation mit dem Internationalen Theaterinstitut (ITI), Berlin, versucht, die europaweite Debatte mit einem intensiven Gedankenaustausch zu bereichern. Eröffnung und Abschluss werden zwei öffentliche Podiumsdiskussionen bilden – Angebote für das interessierte Publikum. In kleineren Arbeitsgruppen erfolgt dann der Austausch unter Netzwerkern, Produktionshäusern, Festivalmachern und Künstlern.
